The shape of the chin can define facial proportions. Often, we receive patients that feel self-conscious due to the shape or projection of their chin. They may feel that it is too far forward, or on the other side, not prominent enough to define their jaw.
Genioplasty is an operation designed to change the shape and protrusion of the chin. This involves fashioning the chin point in relation to other facial features such as the lips and the nose in order to optimise facial proportion. The bone of the chin can be divided and moved independently of the teeth and gums. In this way, it is possible to bring the chin forward to increase chin definition, or move it backwards to reduce a prominent chin.
