Mastopexy – Breast Lift Sydney

With Dr. Mark Kohout

What is a Breast Lift (Mastopexy)

A breast lift, or mastopexy, is a surgical procedure designed to raise, reposition and reshape ptotic (sagging) breasts by removing excess skin and tightening the surrounding tissue. This procedure aims to increase the firmness of the breasts, which may have changed due to factors such as ageing, pregnancy, breastfeeding, or weight fluctuations. During a breast lift, the surgeon makes incisions to access the underlying tissue, lifts the breast tissue to a higher position on the chest wall, and usually repositions the nipple and areola accordingly.

Individual results vary due to personal health factors and genetics, and all surgical procedures carry inherent risks that should be discussed with a qualified health professional.

Who May Benefit

Choosing to undergo a cosmetic or reconstructive procedure is a significant decision that requires a clear understanding of your personal goals and physical needs. While every surgery is unique, certain criteria help determine if a patient is likely to achieve the best possible results and a safe recovery.
  • Individuals with breast ptosis (breasts that have dropped to a lower position on the chest wall) from genetics, weight loss or ageing may benefit.
  • Patients with downward-pointing nipples that they wish to alter.
  • Those with uneven breasts (asymmetrical breasts) may desire this surgery to increase symmetry.

Am I a Candidate?

Determining if surgery is appropriate for you requires a thorough health assessment. Generally, we look for patients who meet the following benchmarks to assist in a smoother recovery:

How is the procedure performed?

Anaesthesia Administered

General Anaesthesia is administered for patient comfort and safety through-out the procedure.

Incision Technique

The surgeon makes an incision, usually around the areola complex, down the front of the breast and in the breast crease, to remove excess skin and reposition the existing breast tissue.

Tissue Removal and Reshaping

Excess breast tissue, fat, and skin are removed, followed by reshaping the remaining breast tissue and repositioning the nipple to achieve the desired breast size and contour.

What is the Recovery like?

Recovery from Breast Lift typically involves a few key stages.

What are the Risks of Breast Lift / Mastopexy Surgery?

Breast lift surgery carries certain risks, including visible scarring from incisions, potential infection at the surgical sites, and changes in sensation that can be temporary or permanent. Additionally, some patients may experience asymmetry in breast shape or size post-surgery, which could necessitate further procedures.

Other risks may include:

  • Breast Tissue Changes
  • Anaesthesia Risks

What are the Costs of a Breast Lift?

The cost of a breast lift varies based on factors such as the surgeon’s fee, facility charges, and anaesthesia costs. Additional expenses, including pre-operative consultations, post-operative care, and required medications, can also affect the overall price. Many clinics provide financing options to help make the procedure more affordable. For an accurate estimate and to explore payment solutions, please contact the clinic directly.
