Abdominoplasty / Tummy Tuck

With Dr. Mark Kohout

What is an Abdominoplasty / Tummy Tuck?

Abdominoplasty, commonly known as a tummy tuck, is a surgical procedure designed to alter the appearance of the abdomen. It involves the removal of excess skin and fat from the abdominal area, along with the tightening of the underlying muscles. This procedure is often sought by individuals who have experienced significant weight loss, pregnancy, or ageing, which can lead to excess, loose skin. An abdominoplasty not only addresses the abdominal contour but can also help increase firmness and alter appearance.

Who May Benefit

Those suffering from excess abdominal skin and fat from genetics, pregnancy, weight loss or ageing.
Individuals with stretched skin and muscles from pregnancy.
Those who wish to alter their body contour.
Individuals that have lost significant amounts of weight but have been left with redundant, excess skin.
Those that understand that this surgery is not a substitute for weight loss but rather a tool to be utilised after goal weight as been achieved.

How is the procedure performed?

Incision

The surgeon makes a horizontal incision along the lower abdomen, usually from hip to hip. This allows for the removal of excess skin and fat, addressing the abdomen's contour.

Muscle Tightening

After removing tissue, the surgeon tightens the underlying abdominal muscles by suturing them together, strengthening the abdominal wall and contouring its appearance.

Skin Repositioning

Once the muscles are tightened, the skin is pulled down to eliminate the excess skin. The surgeon repositions the skin and closes the incision with sutures for a flatter, more toned abdomen.
