Who May Consider Body Lift Surgery After Weight Loss?
Body lift surgery may be discussed when excess skin affects multiple areas of the lower trunk rather than the abdomen alone.
Patients who have lost a significant amount of weight may notice skin folds around the abdomen, sides, lower back, hips or buttock region. If the skin excess extends around the body, abdominoplasty alone may not address all areas of concern.
A body lift is usually more extensive than abdominoplasty. For this reason, consultation includes a detailed review of medical history, weight stability, nutrition, previous bariatric surgery, medications, smoking or vaping history, and the patient’s ability to manage recovery requirements.
Some patients may require staged surgery rather than one larger operation. Staging may be discussed if it is considered more appropriate based on health factors, surgical extent or recovery planning.
