When to Contact the Practice
Patients receive individual instructions about symptoms that require medical advice.
Depending on the circumstances, the practice should be contacted about:
- Unexpected or rapidly increasing swelling
- Marked swelling affecting one side
- Persistent or increasing bleeding
- Increasing redness, warmth or discharge
- Fever or feeling generally unwell
- Worsening discomfort that is not managed by the prescribed plan
- Separation of an incision
- Sudden skin colour changes
- New or worsening shortness of breath
- Difficulty breathing or swallowing
- Chest discomfort
- Calf pain or swelling
- A reaction to a medicine
- Any symptom causing concern
This list is not exhaustive. Urgent or severe symptoms may require assessment through emergency services or an emergency department.
Patients should not rely on internet information to determine whether an unexpected symptom requires treatment.
